What Is a Dental Administrative Assistant?

Dec 04, 2008

A dental administrative assistant is responsible for the general administrative duties within a dental office. These duties may include:

  • Greeting patients
  • Providing the dentist with instruments
  • Sterilizing equipment and setting up dental trays

  • Making appointments

Some dental administrative assistants may take on a lab and dental role, while others may take on the role of an office assistant, or a combination of the two.

How to Become A Dental Admin Assistant

There are many dental administrative assistant programs available, and they usually take one year to complete. There are also two-year associate's degrees available, and some dental offices may be willing to hire an untrained dental administrative assistant and train on the job; however, it's good to have some knowledge of dental practices beforehand.

Expected Salary & Job Opportunities

The average salary for a dental administrative assistant is $32,380 and employment in this field is growing faster than average.
