What Is a Dietician?

A dietician or nutritionist is someone who works with patients to establish a healthy diet and eating lifestyle. They also help people who are dealing with certain ailments to adjust their diet so they can feel better and have fewer complications. Dieticians can supervise meal preparation for large institutions, or work with individuals or groups to help create healthy nutrition plans.

To become a dietician one must generally complete a bachelor's degree in dietetics or nutrition, and then pass state licensing requirements. A dietician can also become a registered dietician through the Commission on the Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association. This path involves completing accredited programming, and internship, and passing an exam.

A career as a dietician is very rewarding, and lets you help people everyday make their lives better. According to PaySacale, as a dietician you can expect to earn an average salary of between $40,433 and $56,480.
