Since 1970, Akron graduates have been well-trained, productive employees at a number of organizations. The Career Services Department serves the needs of employers looking for qualified professionals. Akron Institute of Herzing College is a member of the Herzing Educational System, an organization that operates internationally with a dozen campuses in Canada and the United States.
Herzing College has a proud history as one of the first post-secondary schools founded to train students to work in the computer industry. Since its inception in 1965, Herzing has grown to include six campuses in the United States, four in Canada and its Online Division, all of which focus on computer-related education.
As Herzing added campuses, it also expanded its programs of study to include business management, design, electronics, health care, and public safety. The college's level of credentials now include bachelors of science degrees and associate of science degrees in addition to diplomas, at all of its U.S. sites.

Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting (AASMA)
Program Description
The overall goal of this program is the introduction of pupils to the fundamental operation of a doctor's office. Pupils are instructed in how to aid the doctor with exams, conduct ordinary lab techniques, deal with bookkeeping, correspondence, insurance, and different administrative tasks. The key programmatic goal is to train students for entry-level positions as medical assistants
It is possible for a student to complete a full course in 4.5 semesters. To graduate, 65 semester credit hours need to be completed.
Concentration Core Courses
Each of the 42 semester credit hours are necessary.
Diploma in Medical Assisting (DMA)
MA's comprise the biggest segment of Allied Health careers, performing alongside doctors and other medical staff in a variety of medical settings.
After completion, students will have the opportunity to take the certification exam at the next scheduled exam date.

Students are prepared for an entry-level position as a medical coder in a hospital, clinic or other health care facility with the help of this program.

Program Overview
In the dental assistant program, students will learn the skills necessary to be an efficient member of the dental health team. There are a wide variety of jobs to be performed by dental assistants including office, lab and administrative duties. Our goal is to train our students to become successful at gaining employment as a Dental Assistant.
Course Duration and Focus
A student carrying a full course load generally needs 4.5 semesters for completion. You must complete 64 credit hours in order to graduate.
Diploma in Dental Assisting (DDA)
At Akron Institute a student who obtains a DDA (Diploma in Dental Assisting) will have the knowledge and confidence to be deployed immediately into the work force. Our programs are laid out in such a way that the skills and knowledge that we inculcate in our students corresponds to the requirements in the workplace. Dental Assistant
This program is designed with community employment needs in mind. It will provide the student all the skills necessary to perform the duties a dental assistant is responsible for, including chair side assisting, lab procedures, administrative duties and other functions. All of these are designed to help students find entry level careers as dental assistants.
