Paramedic Schools

A crucial link in the chain of the healthcare team is completed by the EMT-B. It is well-known that most pre-hospital emergency medical care is rendered by an EMT-B. The EMT-B program qualifies students to provide emergency medical care and life support procedures with an ambulance service or other specialized emergency service provider. In order to provide service in a specialized environment, EMTs must have communications, documentation and transportation knowledge and skills. There are certain protocols applicable to Basic Life Support services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This program introduces students to these concepts.

Student will be able to complete the following functions at a basic level:

  • Administer basic cardiac life support
  • Recognize the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition or the extent of injuries and assess requirements for emergency medical care
  • Administer appropriate emergency medical care at a basic life support level based on assessment of the patient's condition
  • Dress and bandage wounds; position, lift, move and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury
  • Perform safely and effectively the expectations of the job description

Paramedic

The difference between Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is that EMTs provide basic life supporting skills such as bandaging wounds and splinting breaks while paramedics are qualified to perform advanced life support services like placing IVs and administering medication.

Graduates will be qualified to complete these advanced life support functions:

  • Venous cannulation(IVs)
  • Tracheal intubation
  • Dispensing medications
  • Advanced cardiac life support
  • Basic trauma life support
  • Pediatric life support
  • Cricothyrotomy
  • Chest decompression
