Veterinary Technician Programs

AAS, Veterinary Technology

Argosy University conducts a program called Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Veterinary Technology. This curricular offering is devoted to bringing about excellent, entry-level veterinary technicians imbued with the nursing, technical, critical thinking and community skills needed to perform effectively in the veterinary community.

Veterinary technicians provide all types of care to different types of animals like companions (dogs and cats), farm animals and exotic animals. While serving the healthcare needs of all types of animals, Veterinary technicians may choose to specialize or participate in a general practice.

Sixty-nine credit hours of study will be included in the program. Students are required to complete 21 credit hours in General Education, in addition to the program-specific courses, to fulfill the requirements of an AAS degree. A full time student adhering to the recommended course outline can fulfill the program requirements in 21 months. To accommodate full-time students who need more time, students can utilize up to 30 months to finish their coursework for this program, but no more than 30 months.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for admission into the Veterinary Technology Program at AAA, Students must have successfully completed a program of secondary education or equivalent (GED).

The entrance requirements are the following:

  • ACT composite score 18 or above
  • Combined Math and Verbal SAT score 850 or above
  • Pass Argosy University Entrance Exam
  • A minimum written TOEFL® score of 500 (paper version), 173 (computer version), or 61 (Internet version) also required for any applicant whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution where English is not the language used.

Working in a modern medical laboratory offers an outstanding career opportunity to work in an environment that is technologically advanced. Performing extensive laboratory testing procedures, technicians often participate in medical research leading to advancements in healthcare.

Seventy-five credit hours of study make up this program. To fulfill the requirements of the AS degree, students must complete specific program-mandated courses as well as an additional 30 credit hours in General Education.

Those students who wish to study in the AS degree program in Medical Laboratory Technology have to select Track I or Track II curriculum outlines. This program in Medical Assisting prepares students to become employed within a health care setting as part of a team of professionals who are dedicated to providing medical care of the highest quality. To further this mission, the Argosy University and employees provide a learning environment in which participants hone their individual and technical skills to turn into smart, committed, and ethical-minded healthcare professionals who express concern for the best interests of the patients and families they care for.

Medical assistants are taught to perform a variety of skills as allied healthcare professionals capable of performing many tasks at once. Patient care, laboratory testing, limited x-ray, office management, and assisting the physician are among their responsibilities. Argosy University's graduates are in high demand in both clinics and doctor's offices.

This program consists of sixty credit hours of study. To earn an AAS degree, students must also complete 21 additional credit hours in General Education.

Medical Assisting students aiming at an AAS degree are offered a program in which they choose curriculum outlines comprising courses in Track I or Track II. The full time 16-month program associated with the Track I class selection, has a maximum completion time of 24 months. Students selecting the Track II courses may finish the course in 12 months, with a maximum time to complete the course of 18 months.

AS, Radiation Therapy

As medical technology progresses and improves and the life span of individuals increases, the part played by the health care technician assumes further significance - and a career in the field of health sciences turns all the more attractive. Practitioner-oriented instruction provides the knowledge and tools to create successful and meaningful careers for Argosy University students in the College of Health Sciences so you should pursue an associate's-degree level education.

An Associate of Science in Radiation Therapy program is now available at Argosy University. The program's undertaking is to supply the medical association with beginners in radiation therapy by giving the students the know-how and technical abilities, a wide and all embracing education, and an appreciation and sympathy for cancer patients as well as their families.

Some of the functions of a radiation therapist include getting patients ready for radiation treatment, situating patients under a linear accelerator and dispensing prescribed doses of ionizing radiation to targeted areas of the body. In addition, they may help with planning of treatment, patient care and support and brachytherapy.

78 hours of credit are required to complete the program.

In order to obtain an AS degree, students must complete 30 credit hours in General Education as well as the courses required for their major field of study.

Students working toward their AS degrees in the Radiation Therapy program must select the Track I or Track II curriculum outline. Students who attend classes on a full-time basis and adhere to the recommended Track I curriculum can graduate from the program within 28 months.

Full-time students must complete the Track I curriculum within 42 months.

Regular students complying with the recommended Track II curriculum plan can finish the program in 20 months if all the specific and general education requisites of the program are complied with.

In order to discuss program progression, each Track II student should consult on an individual basis with an adviser.

As a full time student the total permissible time duration to finish the Track II syllabus is 30 months.

AAS, Radiologic Technology

An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Radiologic Technology program is available at Argosy University. To provide the medical community with entry-level radiologic technologists competent to perform diagnostic medical radiography is the mission of the program. Going along with the institutional mission, the program strives to maximize the student’s educational and professional growth. The program combines both general and technical education to make sure that graduates can meet the many demands of quickly evolving technology in today's medical practice.

Radiographers are highly trained in the field, certified by education to do imaging exams and the responsibilities that go with it at the request of physicians competent to recommend and/or do radiologic procedures.

The requirement for this program is 72 credit hours.

In order to earn an AAS degree, students must complete 21 General Education credit hours in addition to the classes required for their major.

If a student attends classes full-time and follows the recommended curriculum, the program can be completed within 24 months.

Full-time students must complete the program within 36 months.

AAS, Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound)

Argosy University’s Twin Cities campus offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography that develops interpersonal skills with both patients and medical personnel. This teaches students to perform their job functions in a professional and ethical manner, showing respect and compassion for their patients at all times. This program also helps students to develop the best technical skills possible in sonography.

This program will prepare its graduates to function as skilled healthcare sonographers. A physician directs a diagnostic medical sonographer, utilizing ultrasound-imaging methods for diagnostic purposes.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program offers General, Vascular and Echocardiography concentrations. General Sonography concentration, the Vascular concentration, or the Echocardiography concentration are the programs for which applicants should select from for the purpose of obtaining admission.

Seventy credit hours of study are included in the program. In order to obtain an AAS degree, students must complete 21 credit hours in General Education as well as the courses that are required for their major. A six-month clinical training component is also included.

Regular students who enroll during the autumn semester and comply with the suggested curriculum outline can finish the program in 24 months. Three years is the most time that a student is alloted to complete the program; this is based on full-time status and fall matriculation. The program can be completed in 26 months by the full-time students who matriculate during the spring semester and follow the curriculum recommended. Full-time students are allowed up to 39 months to complete the program for spring matriculation.

MS in Health Services Management

The Master of Science (MS) Program in Health Services Management (HSM) prepares health service providers and managers for the challenges they will face in the modern era of health care with a comprehensive course of graduate study. This program encourages the achievement of sustainable research methods and skills and recognizes the value of applied research in dealing with the issues of today's health systems. This program curriculum is designed to give individuals an advanced understanding of contemporary business practices, policy development and planning techniques, modern healthcare systems and organization, management and leadership strategies, financial management decisions, analytical research methods, and health behaviors of people. You will learn the fundamentals of health care management upon completion of this program.

There are 45 credit hours that must be successfully completed in order to meet the requirements of the MS program in Health Services Management, 42 credit hours of core course requirements and 3 in elective requirements.

Admissions Requirements

  • A BA degree from a regionally accredited college, a nationally accredited institution documented and approved by the dean and faculty of the College of Health Sciences, or a correctly certified foreign institution.
  • A minimum 2.7/4.0 cumulative grade point average, OR a grade point average of at least 3.0/4.0 for the final 60 hours of coursework, graduate work included.
  • Any applicant whose native language is not English or who has graduated from an institution at which English is not the language of instruction must present a written TOEFL® score of at least 550 for the paper version, 213 for the computer version, or 79 for the Internet version.

Dental Hygiene Schools

An Associate of Science Degree (AS) is offered in Argosy University's Dental Hygiene program. This program's mission is to prepare competent dental hygienists to perform their jobs effectively and serve the community productively. Students will learn a unique curriculum that helps them to develop the assessment, cognitive, lifelong learning and technical skills they require to be competitive in the job market.

Graduates will be qualified to work as hygienists under the supervision of a dentist, providing preventative dental care.

The program is made up of 90 credit hours of study. Students will complete 30 credit hours in General Education along with all program-specific courses to complete the necessary qualifications to receive their AS degree. Applicants to this program are rated through the use of an objective point system to determine whether they will be accepted.

In order to complete their prerequisite requirements, students are given the choice to matriculate into their chosen program starting with the summer semester. This program can be completed in as little as twenty-four months, if the student starts during the summer semester and adheres to the suggested curriculum outline. The maximum allowable time for students entering during the summer semester is 36 months. Students who start during the fall semester and take the recommended classes as outlined in the curriculum will be able to finish the program in 20 months. The maximum time frame for these students is 30 months.
