Bethel University

In addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees, Bethel University offers seminary and adult education programs. With approximately 6,200 students from 48 states and 29 countries currently enrolled, it is one of the top leaders in Christian higher education. Located in St. Paul, MN, having both east and west coast seminary locations, Bethel University provides Bachelor's and Advanced degrees in close to 100 subjects, leading to careers in relevant fields. The student housing portion of Bethel University is located in Arden Hills, Minn. To accommodate the adult students who are also employed, the College of Adult and Professional Studies and Graduate School holds classes in a variety of convenient locations throughout the Twin Cities. Arden Hills and San Diego are locations where the seminary has established campuses and also teaching centers in central Massachusetts, Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, D.C.

Academic Programs

Bethel awards certificates, bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in numerous the fields. Students will be able to be licensed in a variety of fields including education, social work, therapy, nursing, and more.

Nursing, Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science degree is preceded by a four year pre-licensure nursing program. This program prepares students to practice in entry level settings in multiple types of health care agencies as a professional nurse. Students who graduate from the program are eligible to take the state licensure exam.

The nursing department's goals are:

  • To develop nurses with critical thinking skills, the ability to function in professional nursing roles (structured and unstructured), and having the background necessary to succeed in advanced education.
  • To expose students to Judeo-Christian principles along with liberal arts and sciences to ready them for learning that will last a lifetime.
  • To promotes Christian values in nursing through professional attitude, scholastic achievements and service to the community.

Students can participate in the pre-nursing sequence of courses or as a transfer student, space permitting.

Degree completion program is open to RN's through the option of accelerated evening learning administered by the College of Adult and Professional Studies. The graduate school also offers a master of arts in nursing.

Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education

A 12-credit sequence, including application experiences, of four graduate courses is what the Certificate in Nursing Education program consists of. Work is done mostly online. Students will take part in technology orientation before the start of the coursework. Each summer, there will be two courses offered online.

While completing the certificate program, students will:

  • Demonstrate the power of their education by becoming a leader in the educational health care environment.
  • Combine educational theories, Christian worldview, technology, and professional standards into their coursework.
  • Select and apply teaching strategies to maximize success of the adult learner.
  • Evaluating learner and curricular outcomes by design measures.
  • Examine carefully the organizational, technological, moral, ethnic, professional and political effects on the bodies that educate.
  • Use leadership skills in order to bring about positive changes to nursing and health care education.

Master of Arts in Nursing

The M.A. in Nursing is a program that allows nurses to become experts in advanced nursing techniques and leaders in the health care community.

In this program you will focus on:

  • Gaining leadership skills in various applications to support the health needs of individuals and communities
  • Practical application of leadership and nursing theories, as well as those of other disciplines that can advance the nursing profession
  • Combining ethical perspectives with Christian principals to fulfill advanced nursing roles
  • Dedication to the development of cultural competence in health care delivery systems designed to serve in a global context
  • Using research skills and leadership techniques to confront nursing related challenges
  • Strategic development of organizations and policies to improve the support of health care systems
  • Increasing effectiveness in advanced nursing roles through nursing informatics

All nursing programs at Bethel University are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Nursing Combined Option

In the nursing profession, a Registered Nurse who possesses a bachelor's degree in a different major can submit an application for the B.S. and M.A. combined option. If students are following the Nursing Education concentration, the program may be completed in just 3 years and the Nursing and Health Care Leadership or Nursing and Christian Health Ministry concentrations may be finished in 4 years with part-time study. The College of Adult and Professional studies provide 3 courses covering degree completion in nursing.

Once students have completed all undergraduate and graduate degree in nursing requirements, the degrees are awarded together.

M.A. in Gerontology

In the US, by next quarter century, it is possible to foresee dramatic demographic changes in the population of the United Sates. Currently one person out of eight is past the age of 65, and by 2025 the average changes to one out of four.

Aging is Multi-Faceted

If aging was just a matter of getting older, then care and treatment would be easy; however aging is a complex process. Touching every aspect of life: physical, psychological, social, cultural, economic and spiritual, aging is multi-faceted, gerontologists are quick to explain. A new paradigm in thinking about aging is required today.

The M.A. in Gerontology program is very broad-based and interdisciplinary. Our classes focus on aging and the elderly population, while embracing a holistic perspective. To serve a world that demands the highest professionalism and skill as well as empathy for cultural and generational differences, you need knowledge and competency to prepare for a role in the field of gerontology.

Students will be ready to take on a career in a professional gerontological practice. Graduates are people who:

Program Design

  • The program is designed to be completed in two academic years.
  • Offered sequentially through the academic year, courses have a short summer break.
  • With the exception of the Integrative Seminar and Practicum, courses are taken one at a time, one evening a week.
  • Professionals and programs that provide exemplary and creative service in the field of aging are incorporated into courses.
  • Providing a supportive and stimulating learning environment in a small group of students progressing through the program together and representing a variety of backgrounds and specialties is known as the cohort model.
  • One cohort starts each academic year. If demand is high, additional starts will be scheduled.
