Some folks have the desire to work in a setting where they help people. Others are more interested in a career where they can help animals. A veterinary technician is a crucial member of the team that works to help sick and injured pets and livestock. They also work to help keep pets healthy.
Most people have pets that in many cases they consider to be part of the family. Their animal family members are brought to the Veterinarian on a regular basis for health check ups, shots and other needs. In the event that they are injured or develop a sickness, a trip to the vet becomes their priority.
A good veterinary tech is worth their weight in gold. They work to help put the owners at ease, while often times doing an initial assessment of the animal. It’s important that the vet tech be able to work well with all manner of people and animals. Of course many of the pets that come in will be dogs and cats, but the tech needs to be prepared to handle hamsters, birds, reptiles and the occasional exotic pet.
In emergency cases, the tech needs to be cool under pressure and empathetic to the owner’s needs. It’s not always easy to do. The tech also needs to keep their own emotions in check and remember that caring for the patient is their most important job.
Most veterinary technicians love their job and can’t see themselves doing anything else. If this sounds like you, be sure and send for the free information available to you from any of our fine veterinary schools.
