Clinical Skills Training

In our dental assistant course, your training will emphasize on a range of clinical procedures you may conduct on the job as you help the dentist along side during dental activities, like:

• Helping with oral surgery, oral evacuation, and other procedures
• Coronal polishing, fluoride, and putting on pit and fissure sealants
• Giving instruments and materials to the dentist
• Knowing structures of the oral cavity, the different kinds of teeth, and universal codes for each and every tooth
• Teaching patients about preventative and post-operation dental care
• Sterilizing and disinfecting dental instruments and equipment and other important infection control steps
• Conducting dental radiographs (if having a valid certification) and impressions of patients' teeth

Administrative Skills Training

A majority of dental assistants also have to discharge administrative duties to assist in ensuring an efficient, commercially successful dental clinic. Your training will consist of classes in dental office procedures like taking stock of inventory, maintaining patient records, and communication skills in speaking and writing. Prepare for Certification

The dental assistant program is specifically developed to assist you to make the right preparations for the radiology certification examinations recognized by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE), which may also carry certification to conduct specific radiologic procedures. Regulations differ from state to state. To be qualified to take x-rays in a dentist's office in the state of Texas, you are required to complete a mandatory short course which has been approved by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and also to be registered with the TSBDE.
