Sanford-Brown College
Stanford-Brown College offers a wide array of educational programs in such desirable fields as health care, technology, business, and criminal justice, to name a few.
Dental Assistant Certificate Program
Sanford-Brown College-Hazelwood's (SBC) dental assistant program readies students to assist dentists in an assortment of dental office scenarios. Students will learn dental anatomy, pathology and terminology, dental instruments and materials, x-rays and radiography, chairside assisting techniques, and dental laboratory and office administration procedures.
The curriculum is designed to consist of a lecture portion, a laboratory portion and a clinical portion. The final externhip segment of the curriculum takes place in a clinical environment, where supervisors will require competencies, logs, and evaluations to be completed by the students. Upon finishing the program, graduates who studied, regularly attended classes and their externship, and diligently practiced their skills, will have the required skills to apply for entry-level employment as dental assistants.
The Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association has not given credentials to the Dental Assistant program at SBC. Graduates of the Dental Assistant program at SBC are encouraged to take the certification examination held by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). Taking the certification examination will increase your potential employment opportunities, but it is not mandatory. Graduates may take the certification exam after acquiring a minimum of 3500 hours of work as a dental assistant after graduation. The SBC does not control registration and certification requirements for the examination, and this may change without notice. Regardless of eligibility status upon enrollment, SBC cannot guarantee its graduates eligibility for certification exams on specific dates.
STATE LICENSURE/REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The requirements for licensing and/or registration are mandated by the individual states and are, therefore, subject to change without notice. Dental assistants do not have to pass a state certification exam in order to be employed as dental assistants in the state of Missouri. Since SBC has no control over state licensing or registration requirements, we cannot guarantee the graduates' eligibility to work as dental assistants in Missouri or in any other states at any time, regardless of their eligibility upon enrollment.
