Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting

Join one of America's most rapidly growing, versatile professions in the healthcare field. Our Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting degree program prepares you online to embark on a career as a medical assistant. You will also be qualified for national certification and licensing.

The position of medical assistant has regular and close interactions with patients and physicians as well other health care professionals. You will complete a wide variety of both clinical and administrative tasks. After you have become established in your career, more opportunities may come to you, including the chance to become a specialist in a field that you choose. Though a majority of assistants work for private practices, many can also find excellent opportunities in hospital, and health clinic settings.

Students who graduate with an associate's degree, do so with a solid structure of academic knowledge. They are also taught to perform laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures by way of hands-on training from experienced instructors. This coursework can be taken either on the Internet or at the Davenport Campus. The online program includes clinical and externship opportunities, which are important in providing the practical experience that employers are looking for.

Once students graduate, they can take the Certified Medical Assistant exam, which is administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants; alternatively, they may take the Registered Medical Assistant exam, which is administrated by American Medical Technologists.
