What does a Medical Assistant do?
By overseeing every aspect of their practice, medical assistants help physicians. MAs receive training to achieve both administrative and clinical skills. The practice size and format will determine the actual duties.
Duties commonly performed are: obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing EKGs, collecting weight and heights of patients, performing standard laboratory tests, scheduling patients for appointments, acting as liaison for insurance companies, and updating and filing medical records.
Where are medical assistants employed?
Most MA's perform their jobs in physician offices and outpatient facilities. Outpatient hospital facilities, ambulatory health care services, and diagnostic medical labs offer other possible employment venues.
