Associate's Degree: Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting program prepares graduates for a wide variety of day-to-day challenges. Courses in this program include: Clinical Medical Assisting, Medical Terminology, Hematology and Serology, Urinalysis and Microbiology and Pharmacology.

Along with the primary coursework, pupils enrolled in this program obtain experience with computers, organization, and administration. This program provides grads the instruction needed to join a number of varied health environments like doctor's offices, insurers, hospitals, legal offices, labs and testing companies.

The MA program's credentials come from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) based on being recommended by the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants' Endowment (AAMAE).

Medical Assistants have a wide range of responsibilities and are skilled professionals in the ambulatory health care setting. Graduates will be able to assist doctors, nurse practitioners, and doctors assistants while operating next to one another in direct patient care as a medical assistant. Among the numerous clinical responsibilities an MA might conduct are administering drugs, helping with patient exams, collecting specimens, and waived diagnostic lab tests.
