You can request to take the test for a license as a practical nurse and you will receive a practical nursing diploma after the first year. As a Licensed Practical Nurse you can return to the nursing program after working for a year or more and continue your education, attain an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and become qualified to be licensed as a Registered Nurse. You don't have to take a break though: you can continue without one. To be considered for acceptance, you are required to submit an application each year that you attend the ASN Mobility Program.
Diploma - Practical Nurse
Nursing is both an art and a science with varying levels of practitioners. The meaningful relationships between the patient and nurse are the center of the art of nursing. In carrying out the nursing science, the nurse concentrates on compassionate and aesthetic methods. Nursing requires general knowledge of physical, biological and behavioral sciences. For nursing, different levels of practice within varying settings will require different educational preparation. Practical nurse graduates work directly with patients assisting in data collection, contributing to an action plan for each patient, performing fundamental rehabilitative and preventive nursing techniques, and assisting in the assessment of successful interactions with patients that have commonly occurring health problems.
