Therapeutic Massage: Associate of Applied Science

Program Description:

The Associate of Applied Science Program for Therapeutic Massage will prepare participants to become a part of the massage therapy field. Techniques of therapeutic massage that are used in a clinical setting are the center of this program. In their last quarter, students are required to complete a clinical externship. Graduates will be able to take sit for any nationally recognized certification exam. This of course, includes the National Certification Examination, administered by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).

Credential:

After they graduate, students will be eligible and ready to sit for the National Certification Examination given by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). The state of Michigan has not established standards for certification and licensure, but passing the National Certification Examination, coupled with successfully completing an approved program, should guarantee acceptance, in the case of meeting standards established by most states and agencies.

Program Requirements:

Students must maintain a B- or better in all of their MSG classes, as well as in SCI 100E. For successful completion of the program, the student must achieve a grade no lower than B- (2.7) in all MSG courses. You might have to buy massage supplies to participate in the massage classes.
