Physical Therapist Assisting
Under the direction of a physical therapist, physical therapist assistants perform components of physical therapy procedures and additional associated tasks. These helpers are present to assist physical therapists in providing services that help improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. Patients will include accident victims and persons with disabling conditions such as low-back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries and cerebral palsy.
The Physical Therapist Assisting program conducts their professional preparation phase in the evenings and includes four quarters of academic laboratory courses and lectures. In addition, two other quarters are spent in full-time clinical experiences. Students can attend classes in this program at the West Palm Beach, Savannah and Montgomery campuses. The professional preparation phase of this program includes a 60-hour clinical experience during the first six weeks of the fourth quarter. The last two quarters feature full time terminal clinical experiences. These sessions are conducted over a six-week and a nine-week period. Each clinical externship shall be followed by a return to campus for its integration with printed material, and the opportunity to correct differences between the two. Our program has clinical agreements with 108 hospitals, nursing homes, sub-acute facilities, and outpatient centers offering you externships.
