Physical Therapy Schools

As an Occupation Therapist you will be assisting people who have disabilities in becoming healthy enough to be on their own. Collecting data needed for patient evaluation, carrying out treatment plans, using technology to help people overcome disabilities, and designing activities to help people reach their goals is all part of learning to become a part of our rehabilitation team. When in the field, the OTA works along with a registered Occupational Therapist and carries out his or her own work with single clients or groups.

While enrolled in our program, you will work beside faculty who are nationally recognized while in a helpful and entertaining environment. Work can be found in any setting where people of all ages must learn different ways to live productively, in addition to the traditional medical environment. Once you have completed your course and field work, you are eligible to take the federal exam for becoming a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Our Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). With a 94% pass rate, the total number of graduates who passed the certification exam as first-time new graduate test takers in 2004-2006 was 47 out of 50. The program had 69 graduates during that 3-year period.

Associate in Science Degree: Surgical Technology

An Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology gives students the ability to function in the operating room scrub role. During surgical procedures, the Surgical Technologist functions as a vital member of the surgical team and works in cooperation with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and registered nurse, performing duties that are crucial for the safety and care of surgical patients. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing sterile equipment and supplies for the operation, instrumentation during the operation, and other patient care activities during the operation. Duties that the Surgical Technologist performs include operating steriliziers, lights, electrosurgical units, suction machines and laparoscopic devices in addition to preparing the surgical site.

The CAAHEP accredits the Surgical Technology program. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Certification Exam administered by the NBSTSA.

Entry level careers enables a graduate to prepare and work in fields such as operating room and obstetrical departments in hospitals, processing and surgical supply departments, surgical outpatient centers, and practicing offices of surgeons. It takes as little as 18 months, days or evenings, to earn an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology. Once they have completed the prerequisites, graduates are able to continue on for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management Technology.

Program Mission:

The mission of this academic program is to help students develop the scientific and professional skills needed to pursue a career in the field of surgical technology, with an acute concentration on various surgical specialties and their position in the totality of the health care industry. To ensure a procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize the safety of a patient by maintaining aseptic technique, proper functioning equipment and environmental safety, a surgical technologist works under a medical supervisor. As a respected and integral part of the team of medical practitioners, the Surgical Technologist provides surgical care to patients in a variety of settings.

Program Goals:

  • To produce surgical technologists that are competent in knowledge, skills, and behavior for their field.
  • To supply students with an assortment of clinical experiences in under the theory of cooperative education.
  • To show a dedication to and knowledge of sterilization procedures and operative patient maintenance and care.

Outcomes of the Program:

  • Emphasize and correlate the common surgical approaches by combining an understanding of biology, the humanities, and the basics of Surgical Technology.
  • Function in an entry level position as an integral surgical team member.
  • Become equipped to be a member of a team of healthcare professionals with a concentration in surgical technology.
