Norwich University
The foundation of our rigorous academic environment focuses on learning by using hands on techniques, developing a professional relationship with faculty and participating in interactive classes. Expect the greatest challenge of your life whether if it is by joining the Corps of Cadets or by pursuing a traditional collegiate experience.
The campus grounds of Norwich University are located in the Green Mountains in the middle of Vermont. The state capital, Montpelier, is only a half-hour drive away. If the small, safe, and community-oriented Northfield campus is not enough, Boston, New York, and Montreal are just a few hours away by car. Norwich is one of few Vermont colleges that attract students from 40 states and 29 foreign countries who end up calling the campus home.
Nursing Schools
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Department of Nursing, leading to eligibility to take the National Counsil Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), offers a four-year program: Among the most sought after professionals in the nation are nurses. The lack of skilled nurses means graduates of the nursing program have a large number of job opportunities.
After passing the program, the graduating student receives the Bachelor of Science Nursing certification. Once they achieve the state boards standards for nursing in the state where the student intends to practice, they then are qualified to try to pass the NCLEX-RN or National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nursing Professional. To obtain certification and a license to practice as a RN from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, a student must pass the NCLEX-RN examination.
This BSN program carries the approval of the Vermont State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, ensuring its place as one of the best programs available.
Master of Science in Nursing
Thirty-six credits, 6 semesters of 6 credits each, make up the Master of Science in Nursing program. Each seminar has a length of approximately 11 weeks and it ends with a one week residency and graduation ceremony at Norwich University in June. Because the program is specially designed, all coursework can be finished in just 18 months.
The following outcomes will be achieved through the program's design.
- Use a diversity of strategies to communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding nursing and healthcare system issues
- Using effective critical thinking and decision-making skills with appropriate data to identify problems and intervene to provide effective outcome for health care delivery.
- In practices settings, apply leadership and management theory to develop collaborative partnerships across healthcare disciplines.
- Determining effective use of human and fiscal resources require that you use appropriate data to make decisions.
- To improve the quality of healthcare, an evidence-based practice using research should be developed.
- As defined by the scope and standards of practice, apply the role of the advanced practice nurse as a nurse leader/manager.
- Exhibit the responsibilities and abilities of the advanced practice nurse leader/manager as outlined by the AACN.
- Applying multiple theories within nursing, technology, and the best practices of leadership and management in the delivery of healthcare services.
