Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

The Associates Degree in the Nursing Program at Baker College sets forth to train nurses who will provide their patients and clients with care for their minds, bodies, and spirits. This school's vision is for both a positive client/patient nurse experience and a public awareness of nurses as caring, healing health professionals.

Our approved program of study prepares students to receive Associate Degree in Nursing and to be eligible for RN licensure examination upon graduation. There will be assistance for the nursing students to help them develop the knowledge, temperament and nursing skills that are mandatory for the profession of nursing, by actively participating and through other varied fields of study.

The specified courses of study are created to aid the students in becoming critical thinkers and to help develop the skills needed to solve problems, without forgetting the importance and value of a just and stable moral system that encompasses the ethical and cultural aspects of the problems that arise, in the constantly changing health care system. RN licensure is dependent upon the discretion of the Michigan Board of Nursing; those convicted of a crime, or participating in substance abuse may be denied. There is restricted enrollment for this program.

Credentials

Graduates of the program are able to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination, a standardized test that is put together by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Any applicant who has been convicted of a crime or is addicted to drugs or alcohol may be denied an RN license by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

Necessary Functions/ Technical Specifications:

If approved for the nursing career path, pupils must get proof of physical stamina and mental agility to carry out the necessary tasks of a pupil in nursing. A physician or physician extender must perform this examination and determine if the student is able to perform these functions. Students are expected to be able to adapt to adverse environmental conditions that may be existing in the nursing workplace. The Health Appraisal Form specifies the details of each of these important functions. Before participating in any clinical rotation, all students must have this form filled out by a physician or physician extender.
