LPN programs in District of Columbia offer one-year training programs that lead to employment as a licensed practical or vocational nurse. Routine tasks performed by LPNs include direct patient care, care plan development, hygiene and mobility assisting, and medication administration. LPNs generally work under the direct authority of a registered nurse (RN) and physician, in a wide range of medical facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, assisted care facilities, rehabilitation centers, clinics, and private physician’s offices. Graduates of the LPN program must pass the NCLEX-PN exam presented by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
