Real-work Experience/Externships and Internships

We provide hands-on education throughout our programs. During their entire training period, students are able to learn actual practical skills on a continuous basis. As part of our job preparation programs, students in most of the courses are sent to work in a local health care facility, where they get real-world experience and have the opportunity to sharpen their skills.

Nursing Schools

Nursing Assistant Program

For individuals who are interested in ensuring the health, comfort and safety of patients, Our Nursing Assistant Program is the perfect fit. Patient care, anatomy, physiology, medical ethics, equipment, safety and emergency procedures such as CPR are included in the training. The National Nurse Aid Assessment Program Exam will be given on graduation to students who will receive a Certificate of Completion, which is approved by the State Board of Learning.

Our career centered program for Nursing Assistants, of seven week duration, readies students intending to assume their career as a Nursing Assistant, where they will be a much needed asset to hospitals, assisted living facilities and rehabilitation centers. Students will learn how to provide day-to-day routine care and how to respond to emergency situations, through not only class work but also a clinical externship that provides hands-on experience.

There are many career choice at UMA. Students can choose from training in such in depand Healthcare fields as Medical Assisting, Massage Therapy, Basic x-ray Technician and Phlebotomy.

This program prepares you for all the basic knowledge you will need for an entry level position in the medical field. Students in the Medical/Clinical Laboratory Assistant Program will be exposed to ""waived"" laboratory procedures, EKG procedures, blood collection proceedures, equipment usage, collection and handling of laboratory specimens, safety and medical ethics, professionalism, anatomy/physiology, as well as medical terminology and Medical Manager training. This thorough study will get students ready to land an entry-level job in their chosen career field upon graduation.

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are in great demand and the students will be prepared to directly assist doctors and nurses in a hospital environment. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of monitoring patients' conditions, communicating with hospital staff, and updating medical charts, students will also learn basic procedures such as phlebotomy and advanced procedures like EKG. As part of their studies, students will get practical experience at a local health care facility.

The program will cover the prime hospital departments, including pediatrics, ICU, CCU, and rehabilitation. Other fundamentals covered by the program include: anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, safety rules, and proper handling of equipment. Graduates with a Certificate of Completion can start an exciting and rewarding health care career as a PCT in pre- or post-operative care, pediatrics, or even an Emergency Room!

Phlebotomy Training

The Phlebotomy Program teaches students the skills they will need to function as a Phlebotomy Technician in a medical office, clinic, laboratory, or hospital. Students quickly become familiar with blood collection procedures, the utilization of standard phlebotomy equipment, safety and medical ethics, and related medical terminology. A supervised internship at a nearby healthcare facility is an integral part of the program. A Certificate of Completion will be given to graduates which will qualify them to take the A.M.T. National Phlebotomy test.
