Vanderbilt will offer many entry options into the School of Nursing, including the “bridge” program that has served as a model for schools around the country and a fast-track MSN-PhD entry option. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Not only does Vanderbilt School of Nursing offer a flexible program that allows students to more easily obtain their Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, we also use innovative new approaches and offer vast opportunities for hands-on clinical experience.

Our MSN program is characterized by the following:

PhD in Nursing Science Program

Scholars are primed for research and academic careers in health care whether in the public or private sectors. Our program enables graduates to conduct and disseminate research that responds to regional, national, and international priorities. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

With the launch of our Doctor of Nursing Practice program, Vanderbilt School of Nursing will prepare practice scholars to become leaders, improve health care outcomes, and strengthen nursing management and education, along with bringing evidence-based knowledge into clinical practice.

Are you prepared to take on the challenges and rewards offered by an exciting career in health care? Are you interested in schooling that will result in a clinical care position? The proposed Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Vanderbilt is based upon our advanced practice nursing (APN) programs, which have been recognized internationally. A Vanderbilt DNP degree provides you with the ability to critique nursing and other clinical scientific findings, and to design programs of care delivery that are locally acceptable, economically feasible, and have significant impact on health care outcomes.

The Vanderbilt School of Nursing DNP degree offers:

A 5-semester, post-master's, 74-credit hour program of study, of which 39 hours may be transferred from your MSN degree.
Learning that incorporates and builds upon the 100-year history of excellence at Vanderbilt as a leader in nursing teaching, practice, and research.
Clinical interrelation suited to every pupil's unique academic interests, with clinical team members in medical treatment groups/agencies who help ease the transmission of information and skills from classroom to clinical environment.
Currently practicing faculty who will guide you through an environment marked by evidence-based knowledge discovery.
A comprehensive teaching staff training network which offers a number of various examples of care.
Combined real-time and virtual scholarly interaction and faculty mentoring, including both on-campus study and distance learning methodologies, enable DNP students to remain located where they are and remain employed.

Post-Master's Certificates for MSNs

The purpose of the post-master's study program is to provide for nurses who already hold a master's degree in nursing, an educational route to specialization in an area other than that obtained in their master's program, with modern facilities in the newly renovated Godchaux Hall and state-of-the-art nursing informatics, and with technology to support learning and practice. Whether you are planning to expand your role or change it, if you are a master's-prepared nurse this program is designed to strengthen and broaden your clinical and/or management capabilities.

After completion of the following specialties, one can move to post-masteral studies:

Those students who already hold a master's degree are required to supply a portfolio containing their credentials to the program director; this will help them create a program of study.
