Sanford-Brown College
Program in Veterinary Technology
The Program in Veterinary Technology offered through Sanford-Brown College-St. Peters (SBC) gives Veterinary technicians the skills and knowledge they need in order to provide competent and humane care for both the emotional and physical well-being of animals. Both a lecture and a clinical component are included in the structured, core curriculum. The last part of the curriculum involves supervised experiences in a clinical environment, which requires competencies, logs and evaluations completed by the student. Graduates who attended classes and their off campus practice regularly, and who studied and exercised their skills, should have the ability to land an entry-level job as a veterinary technician by the end of the curriculum.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) gives programmatic accreditation to The Veterinary Technology program at SBC. This allows graduates from this program to apply for registration from the Missouri Medical Veterinary Board, and allows them to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and the State Board examination. SBC does not control the requirements for writing and passing the VTNE and the State Board examination which are subject to change without prior notification. Regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment, SBC cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take the VTNE or State Board examination, at all or at any specific time. State registration for veterinary technicians in Missouri, or any state, is not under SBC's control. This means that SBC cannot assure graduates that they will be necessarily be eligible for employment as veterinary technicians in any state, including Missouri, at any given time, regardless of eligibility status at time of enrollment.
